Refusal

No.

Practice it

until the word

Imagecomes all on its own.

Let it echo in

your battered mind

like some unending

drone.

No.

Refuse

the cup of poison

You’re holding in your hand.

Liberate yourself,

Rise up and

take a stand.

No.

Don’t let

those damning thoughts

creep in to steal

your soul.

Don’t let

the memory

of yesterday turn

your diamonds into coal.

Keep your eyes on

 bright tomorrows.

Let that shape today.

Refuse to let

the you

you were

steal

your life

away.

Testing the Waters

The water beckons, cool and blue,

My toes dig into sand.

I long to test the waters, but

I’m frozen on dry land.

There’s a sweetness in the air, today,

Tinged with ocean brine.

If only I could dare the waves

The world, I know, is mine
